I build
software.

About Me

Hi! I'm Musa, a software engineer with a background in the biological and medical sciences. I enjoy building websites, applications, and tools, but above that, I love to solve problems.

My extensive experience in scientific research has aided in honing my observational and analytical skills as a developer. At the University of Florida, I have worked on multiple research teams. In addition to writing code, I contributed to several published research papers.

I want to utilize my skillset as a software developer to bring value to meaningful projects that will challenge me and allow me to leverage my years of coding and research experience in the construction of innovative software.

Work

Software Engineer II | State Farm

Richardson, TX (Remote)
Jul. 2020 - Current
    Primary techs:
  • Spring (Java)
  • Angular (JS)
  • CSS
  • HTML
  • REST APIs
  • Started as a Software Developer on a team that owns the apps used by our auto-insurance policy holders. I've been promoted twice within this team since I started in 2020.
  • Deliver performance improvements and bug fixes to our back-end apps written in Java, including the automation of several customer-facing flows (e.g. replacing a vehicle on an insurance policy).
  • Migrate the features that use a Java-based UI to Angular. This involves creating new REST API endpoints within our Java application, and the creation of new web pages using Angular.
  • Improved the regression test automation by creating scripts that leverage the Postman CLI to run through hundreds of API calls, reducing the time needed to verify the API endpoints from several hours (manual testing) to just minutes.
  • Mentoring interns, as well as leading AWS study groups for peers who are seeking AWS certifications.
  • Improve our pipelines for deployment by migrating them from the Jenkins platform to Gitlab. In the best cases, the pipelines ran in just 1/10th the time after the improvements were made.
  • Improved the in-code (JDoc) and out-of-code (wiki) documentation for our apps and common procedures.
